Our beginner class is for the 5-9 year-old who has no musical theatre experience.  New for this group is that they will meet ALL YEAR and work on basic musical theater form and explore the use of staging, props and direction. They will do one show in the spring on a big stage!!  Students will learn songs, simple choreography, how to follow simple stage directions and expression of feelings and telling stories through movement. Having fun through team work is emphasized!

Synopsis:  Disney’s Winnie the Pooh KIDS is a delightful show based on the beloved characters of A.A. Milne and the 2011 Disney animated feature film. Welcome to the Hundred Acre Wood, where Winnie the Pooh is once again in search of honey. Along the way, he meets his pals, Tigger, Piglet, Rabbit and Owl, but soon discovers that Christopher Robin has been captured by the mysterious Backson! As they prepare for a rescue operation, the animals learn about teamwork, friendship and, of course… sharing snacks.

The intermediate troupe is for younger students aged 7-11 who have some performance experience. The focus is on developing a deeper understanding of story-telling through movement, music and the art of vocal expression. Staging concepts will be used regularly and students will be expected to attend most rehearsals. The intermediate class has two performances on the stage at Avondale Towne Cinema.

Synopsis: Honk! JR. is a heartwarming celebration of being different. Ugly looks quite a bit different from his darling duckling brothers and sisters. The other animals on the farm are quick to notice and point this out, despite his mother’s protective flapping. Feeling rather foul about himself, the little fowl finds himself on an adventure of self-discovery, all the while unknowingly outwitting a very hungry Cat. Along the way, Ugly meets a whole flock of unique characters and finds out being different is not a bad thing to be.

The Competitive Troupe is an audition-based musical theatre troupe for students aged 10 to 18, who have performance experience. Students receive instruction from our award-winning director Shell Ramirez and choreographer Maria LaNave-Johnson. Students gain experience in all aspects of musical theatre production, including vocal training, choreography and acting techniques. We produce two full musicals per year, one in the fall and one in the spring.

Synopsis:  Be careful what you wish for as Stephen Sondheim’s and James Lapine’s cockeyed fairytale comes to life in this adaptation of their groundbreaking, Tony Award-winning musical.  Into the Woods JR. features all of your favorite characters – Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Jack (and his beanstalk) and the Witch in this lyrically rich retelling of classic Brothers Grimm fables.

The musical centers on a baker and his wife, who wish to have a child; Cinderella, who wishes to attend the King’s festival; and Jack, who wishes his cow would give milk. When the baker and his wife learn that they cannot have a child because of a witch’s curse, the two set off on a journey to break the curse and wind up changed forever.
