Classes Fall 2020

Foundations classes are for younger students, aged 6-11, with a focus on teaching the foundations of theatre in a fun and engaging way. Students develop a deeper understanding of story-telling through movement, music and the art of vocal expression, and will gain production experience with an end of semester performance at our space. Class size limited to 15 participants, choose one of three class times.

The Foundations fall production is “School House Rock Live, Jr”, based on the Emmy Award-winning Saturday morning educational cartoon series and pop culture phenomenon. This energetic musical follows Tom, a young schoolteacher, who is nervous about his first day of teaching. He tries to relax by watching TV, when various characters representing facets of his personality emerge from the set and show him how to win his students over with imagination and music. Memorable songs as “Just a Bill,” “Lolly, Lolly, Lolly” and “Conjunction Junction” bring his lesson plans vividly to life.

Performances will be the weekend of November 6-8.

  • Cast A – Classes are Tuesdays, 4:00-6:00 pm, starting Sept. 8
  • Cast B – Classes are Saturdays, 1:00- 3:00 pm, starting Sept. 12
  • Cast C – Classes are Saturdays, 3:30-5:30 pm, starting Sept 12

Apprentice Conservatory classes are for students aged 10 to 18, who have some performance experience and are ready to engage in student-led productions.  Students gain experience in all aspects of musical theatre production, and are encouraged to choreograph and direct together. Students get full scale production experience with an end of semester performance. Class size limited to 20 participants, choose one of two class times.

The Apprentice Conservatory fall production is “Matilda, Jr”, a gleefully witty ode to the the anarchy of childhood and the power of imagination! Matilda has astonishing wit, intelligence… and special powers! She’s unloved by her cruel parents but impresses her schoolteacher, the highly loveable Miss Honey. Matilda’s school life isn’t completely smooth sailing, however – the school’s mean headmistress, Miss Trunchbull, hates children and just loves thinking up new punishments for those who don’t abide by her rules. But Matilda has courage and cleverness in equal amounts, and could be the school pupils’ saving grace!
